Mosquitoes here, there and everywhere

Image
After my youngest son, Yahmir, has been hospitalized due to dengue fever caused by a mosquito bite years ago, I am always on guard against mosquitoes. Dengue and Chikungunya are now an all-year-round mosquito-bite diseases in the country which should not be taken for granted as it comes in different strains that can be fatal. image via en.wikipedia.org To refrain from being the dinner of these blood suckers, as much as possible we mosquito proof our home.   We always check for any stagnant water in and out of the house especially after a rain fall.   Any pool of water like in the saucer of a plant pot or rain water caught inside an old tire, fresh flower vases and even in the base of an air conditioning unit is a good place for them to breed and hang out. In fact, wherever they can find enough water   to lay their eggs, they will be there. There are many ways to keep safe from mosquitoes.  Through researching I have found out that there are plants that r...

All In One

Liquid soap is in. Different brands of liquid soaps are seen in grocery stores and supermarkets, yet which of it will you buy?  Do you know that Jergens Antibacterial Liquid Soap is an all in one soap not only for you but for your family too?  It kills germs, deodorizes and moisturizes as well.  Years ago, my ob-gyne recommended it as an alternative to my intimate wash.  I gave it a try and satisfied with it.  I’ve been using it for years now.  During the cold weather, we use it for body wash to moisturize our skin and prevent it from drying.  I place bottles of Jergens in the bathroom/comfort room and another one in the kitchen.  It is also very effective as a hand wash.  It gently removes stubborn odors, like garlic for instance. It is very affordable and could last a long time, depending on the usage.  A pea size is enough for hand washing and in intimate washing.   It comes in a big bottle for refill and a smal...

Table Manners

We can teach our kids the proper table manners in their toddler stage, or by the time they are already eating meals with the family.   Habits are formed early in life.   They control many of our actions.   Such habits will be carried out wherever you are. Proper Table Manners are as follows: Go promptly to the table clean and neat. Sit properly and wait until served. Ask politely for things on the table to be passed. “Please pass the rice or May I have some” Use the table napkin properly. Say grace before and after eating. Talk of pleasant topics while at the table. Father being the head of the family is at the head of the table. Keep elbows off the table. Eat slowly and chew food thoroughly without smacking the lips. Rinse the mouth or brush your teeth after having left the table. We should pick our teeth after having left the table. Leave the table after everybody is through.   If you have to leave the table before everyone is through, ask to be excuse...

Basic Home Computer Maintenance

I am not a computer geek, but being a former ICafe owner I have learned many things in the computer maintenance.  From crimping rj 45 to a cable, hardware diagnosis and replacement, formatting and operating system configurations, virus removal and troubleshooting.  I have learned these things through joining ULOP (Unified Lanshop Owner's Portal), reading, and through a very good friend Bien my Guru, who patiently teaches me how to do computer related problems and to my son JM who is now an IT and other fellow Ulopians who are very unselfish and willing to help. Through trial and error, in the beginning I suffered an electric shock by just simply opening the case of the CPU (Central processing Unit), my finger got wounded in the crimping tool, broke some parts inside the CPU but I just charged it to experience lol.  I believe that practice makes perfect, and the knowledge I acquired saved me a lot of money from paying a computer technici...

House Emergencies and Accidents Part 2

Nosebleeds are very common among children and many start spontaneously. Unless they are a direct result of an impact to the nose, the cause may not be known. Simple treatment whereby the blood is encouraged to clot is usually effective. The priority is to protect the victim’s airway and to try and prevent blood from being swallowed. HOW TO TREAT NOSEBLEEDS 1. Lean the child forward and encourage her to spit blood into a handkerchief or some other receptacle. 2. Pinch the child’s nose just below the hard part at its top to and apply firm pressure for 10 minutes (this is the amount of time it takes for a clot to form). If the bleeding has not stopped after 10 minutes, apply pressure for two further periods of 10 minutes. If bleeding continues then take the child to hospital. 3. Once the bleeding has stopped, advise the child not to scratch, pick, or blow her nose, not to drink hot liquid, and not to exert herself, because all these activities can dislodge the clot and cause ...
