Damaged floors may create a bad impression and may make your house look unattractive. Improving its appearance may, however, leave your pockets sucked up dry. Below are tips to help you update your floors without exhausting your cash.
Repair the old flooring
It will cost cheaper to repair your damaged floor than to install new flooring. Also, removing the old flooring will not only be expensive but will consume a lot of time. For instance, if your old flooring is wooden, you can repair it yourself by sealing the cracks and gaps then finish by varnishing it. Optionally, if you are updating your tiles, you can get the new flooring installed on top of the old one which on the downside, may not last longer than when installed afresh but it will sure save you some money. Use remnants
You can buy carpet remnants from floor covering dealers at huge discounts. These carpet remnants are usually the leftovers from carpet rolls but are sold at very low prices. You can use them in small spaces such as walk-in closets, bathrooms or porch etc. Also, you can get remnant boxes of laminate, tiles or even wood from the floor covering dealers for low prices. You can use them to spruce up small space flooring, for example, your laundry room.
Do it yourself
Updating your own flooring yourself will save you money you would have paid a professional to update it for you. Installation may even cost you more than what you spend on the buying the flooring materials. So, if you are handy, doing it yourself may be a good project over the weekend. If you are not, you can get help from a member of your family or even your neighbor. Still, it can be a good way to learn how to do it and you can find great help watching ‘how to’ videos on YouTube.
Consider cheaper flooring materials
Cork, laminate, hardwood, tiles, vinyl, and carpet are all types of flooring materials. You should know that they all differ in prices so if you are trying to update your flooring on a budget, you should consider a cheap option. For instance, you can skip hardwood and choose laminate because it costs cheaper. Also, choose materials that are compatible with your old flooring. Even though some materials can be switched up, it is recommended to use the same type of flooring you had before.
Ask for discounts
Asking for discounts is another great way to save money on floor renovations. You can ask to be discounted when buying your materials. Some dealers can give you discounts especially if you offer to pay cash because they are charged some fees to process your credit card so may not be that willing to give discounts. You can also ask to be discounted for installation by offering to remove the old flooring or offering to help install some.
