Proper Aircon Management CanTrim Down Your Electric Bill

The aircon or air conditioning unit is one of the most indispensable appliances in the house. The convenience it brings especially during the summer season requires a hefty price in the budget too. In most households, the air conditioning unit consumes more electricity than any other appliance.

Budget conscious homemakers like me is always looking for ways on how to cut cost on electric bill. The electric bill is one of the utilities we pay on a monthly basis, proper aircon management can cut back on electricity cost.

Here are some tips on proper air condition management.

The simplest way to save is to run the AC less often during the cold season and rainy days. Open the windows to allow the cool air to get in and use the electric fan instead.

Temperatures are expected to soar during the summer season, thus electric bill make up a huge chunk in our utilility bills. It is wise to opt for energy efficient cooling systems that gives low electricity consumption. ACs that are 10 years or older are most likely not at their optimum efficiency.  Moreover, choosing the right airconditioning unit that suits your room is very important.

When turning on your cooling unit, put it on fan first for 3 to 5 minutes before adjusting and setting the thermostat.

Turn it off one hour before leaving the room or set the timer for automatic shut off.

In case of power outage, make sure the switch is off and allow time to pass before turning it on again when the power returns.

Avoid placing heat-generating appliances such as TV sets or lamps near the aircon unit. The heat coming from these appliances can significantly affect how much energy the aircon consumes.
Keep your unit clean.  Clean the filter by washing it in soap and water at least every two weeks to ensure clean air free of allergens that can cause health problems. Wipe the exterior on a regular basis to keep dust from accumulating.

Install and position the unit away from direct sunlight so the motor is less stressed.

Call a professional for scheduled deep cleaning every 6 months

An upkeep and efficient air conditioning unit can lower electricity cost, thus will yield up more savings for other family needs and expenses.
