Eco Friendly Heating and Cooling

There are many ways we can keep our homes cool in summer and warm in winter, from simple everyday things to the design and construction of your home. The main focus in eco-friendly heating and cooling is minimising energy consumption and conserving warm and cool air around your home.

Ventilation is a critical factor in both heating and cooling. In the warmer months, the hotter air rises into the roof and needs to be released. Opening a few windows is the easiest way to do this, but having some vents in your roof is the most effective way for dissipating warm air in your home.

Skylights are also a perfect way to achieve this and they also let more natural light into your home, so you’re not using as many lights, which sometimes produce heat. Once the hot air has been drawn away, cooler air can enter your home via vents or your air conditioning system. In winter, make sure you close the vents and skylight to prevent heat from escaping.

Insulation is one of the best ways to keep heat in your home. It will drastically increase the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems because you don’t have to run the units for long to heat or cool your living areas. There’s many kind of insulation, so speak to a professional about which best suits your home and climate.

Solar heating is also a great way for homes to manage their carbon footprint. They’re great for heating outdoor pools and your home. There are two main types - liquid or air, which both collect the sun’s heat and transfers it to a collector or directly into your home. They usually have a backup system if it’s cloudy so you don’t need to worry about it not working.
