Cleaning 101: How often do you Dust?

Dusting is one of my regular house chores. I usually dust on a daily basis, however when I stopped availing the services of a househelp, I do it on a bi-weekly or sometimes on a weekly basis as it consumes time and I have other everyday jobs to attend to.

Dingy furnitures and dirty electronics such as electric fans and air conditioning unit filters trigger allergy and breathing problems. So in order for me not to get tired of taking off the grime every now and then I opt to keep our windows closed. As I am all alone during the day, keeping the windows closed will also keep me safe. I only open it when it is raining as there is less dirt to come in when outside grounds are wet. I also put on entrance mats at each door entrance to lessen the filth coming in from the shoes or slippers. I also use slipcovers on our upholstery, so I just have to shake it out instead of vacuuming the entire sofa.

My best dusting buddies are the microfiber cloth and static duster.

A microfiber cloth is my best choice for wiping up because they grab and hold loads of dust without releasing and spreading it into the air. It is also safe to use for it will not scratch furniture. The cloth is soft and easy to wash afterwards.

For difficult to reach areas like ceiling fans, behind shelves or under the fridge, I use static dusters with flexible heads that can bend into any position.  Just like the microfiber cloth, a static duster attracts dirt and it clings to it. To clean a static duster, a shake will do and it is set to do another cleaning job.

Static Dusters

Dusting frequency depends on where your home is located. If your abode is situated on a busy street, then dusts are bound to accumulate faster, thus needs for a frequent clean up.

So, what about you, how often do you dust?

  2. I have to dust everyday because my daughter sneezes a lot from the dust.  It's because there's a certain factory nearby, so their residue just flies straight through our windows.  The static duster works for me too.
